Call for street sport competitors

Burnie City Council is calling for all keen skateboarders, scooter and BMX riders.

The final competition in the Know Your Odds Skate, Scooter and BMX series, will be held at the Burnie Skate Park on Saturday 5 March 2016. Registrations are now open at to participate.

The competition series is coordinated by a unique partnership between the Devonport, Burnie, Waratah-Wynyard and Kentish Councils, along with the Tasmanian Government’s ‘Know Your Odds’ campaign.

Mayor Anita Dow said, “This series provides a fun and positive recreational opportunity for the region’s youth. At the same time we are also able to help increase awareness about problem gambling.”

Staff from Anglicare’s Gambler’s Help Program will be onsite distributing information and increasing awareness about gambling with young attendees.

The competition will offer different age divisions for the different sports. There is over $1,000 worth of great prizes on offer and it is free to participate.

“For those who don’t wish to compete, we encourage you to come along and spectate. The day will prove to be very entertaining as our youth showcase street sports in a positive way.”

Register to participate online now at or on the day at 10.30am. The first heat starts at 11am. Competitors under 18 must have a registration form completed by their parent/guardian. Forms will be available on the day. Helmets must be worn by all competitors.
