Call for people working with youth

Do you provide services to young people in Burnie?

A two day Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Course facilitated by Geoffrey Ahern a Mental Health Professional and Educator, is being held in the Burnie City Council Chambers on 1 and 2 August 2013 from 9am to 4pm.

Acting Mayor Sandra French said, “This course teaches first aid skills for adult members of the public to give initial help to adolescents experiencing mental health problems, in a mental health crisis situation, or in the early stages of a mental illness. This course will give participants vital skills to identify the signs and support young people with depression and anxiety as well as suicide awareness.”

Burnie City Council is offering to subsidise a majority of the course cost for the first 20 people to register.

“The first 20 registrations received from residents, organisations or clubs providing services to young people in the Burnie municipality, will only have to pay $40 for the two day course,” Acting Mayor French said.

The full cost is $140 for additional places or those providing services to young people outside of the Burnie municipality.

“If you can't make the full two day course there is also a free evening presentation on Monday 1 August from 6pm to 9pm. This free session will also be held in the Burnie City Council Chambers.

Places are limited, register before 26 July 2013 at www.burnie.net
