Burnie says thanks to volunteers

Burnie City Council will say a big thank you to all of its volunteers when it hosts a Volunteer Thank You Dinner on Saturday 26 August at the Burnie Arts & Function Centre.

Burnie City Council Mayor Anita Dow said, “Currently Burnie City Council has approximately 160 volunteers on our register, and this dinner is a way to formally acknowledge and thank them for all the great work that they do to at our facilities and events.”

“Volunteers fulfil a very important role in the community and each of them does so for his or her own reasons. However, there is no doubt that their contribution and commitment is critical to the wellbeing of so many organisations, including Burnie City Council.”

“It is important that we recognise and acknowledge the commitment and dedication of our volunteers, and this dinner is a wonderful way to do that. We are also very fortunate to have Ms Alison Lai, Chief Executive Officer of Volunteering Tasmania attending as a guest speaker.”

“Our volunteers willingly give their time so that we can ensure that visitors to our city have a memorable experience and so we can run events such as the Burnie Challenge and Burnie Ten.”

“Our volunteers work across a number of areas including the Burnie Regional Art Gallery, the Burnie Regional Museum, Burnie Visitor Information Centre, the Burnie Ten, the Burnie Challenge, 321 Go and welcoming the cruise ship passengers.”
