Burnie ready to shine

Burnie Shines 2011 is set to be officially launched this Wednesday 21 September.

Burnie City Council Marketing Manager Jenny Cox said, “Our exciting program will be released in the Advocate this Wednesday and our website will also reveal over 100 events being held in Burnie during October.

“Many of the events in Burnie Shines are free or very affordable. Some events do require ticket allocation. So don’t forget to grab a program or check out the website from Wednesday and book quickly so that you don’t miss out on your chosen events.”

Ms Cox said that Burnie Shines is a month long festival that caters for everyone’s taste.

“There are many wonderful events for families to enjoy together and plenty of activities for young people right through to the elderly.

“That’s what I love about Burnie Shines. It’s a month where the whole community can celebrate our rich cultural life with music, exhibitions and performances and really celebrate the simpler things of life.”
This year’s theme for Burnie Shines is Our Place in the World.

“The theme is all about embracing the uniqueness of Burnie. We are a small city in a big world and we have so much to celebrate and show. The whole month of October really gives a great snapshot of our community; a community that doesn’t just receive entertainment. They make it.”

Find out what’s on by visiting the official website or grab a program from Wednesday’s Advocate.
