Everyday more devastating footage of the Queensland floods is spread across our television screens.

With an overwhelming feeling of being powerless and helpless, Burnie woman Katy Pakinga placed a Facebook update on her page asking for ways to help those in need in Queensland.

The idea of a fundraising concert was born and is now coming to life.

Miss Pakinga said, “The Burnie community has jumped at the chance of helping in some way. What started as an idea has now become a fully supported community event.”

A Queensland Flood Relief Fundraising Concert will be held at the Burnie Arts & Function Centre on Saturday 22 January at 7:30 pm.

Organiser and initiator Katy Pakinga will perform on the night at The HELP Concert along with Brett Budgeon, Laura Budgeon, Burnie Youth Choir, City of Burnie Brass Band, Helenmarie and many other talented locals putting their hands up to help.

“We are so grateful to the Burnie City Council who quickly offered their support with the donation of the concert venue at the Burnie Arts & Function Centre, along with organising and paying for the advertising of the event. The Burnie Arts & Function Centre is supporting the concert as one of their Arts for the Community projects,” Miss Pakinga said.

Miss Pakinga is well-known on the North-West Coast of Tasmania as a performer, teacher and champion of many causes. She conducts the Burnie Youth Choir and her Encore Performing Arts Studio has been responsible for many wonderful local productions and concerts.
