Burnie Youth Council Art Challenge 2017

The annual Burnie Youth Council Art Challenge will be held 3pm to 5pm daily over the week of 18-22 September at Studio 2 Eleven, 211 Mount Street, Upper Burnie.

“This exhibition will showcase 2D, 3D and photographic works by youth from across the Burnie region from kinder to college" said Mayor Anita Dow.

Dave Fregon, Council’s Youth Development Officer said that there are 250 entries received so far this year, and much diverse work in each of the categories will make for an extremely interesting and engaging experience.

Last year entries into the challenge exceeded 400, filling the studio with families both for the openings during the week from 3-5pm every day, and the final Friday night which saw a capacity crowd of over 120 people attending the awards ceremony.

One of the highlights of the awards night to be held on Friday 22 September 2017 is the ‘Rising Star Art Award’ instigated by retired teachers Sandra Henderson and Bob Lubout. The senior award for students in years 8, 9 and 10 is a certificate and gift voucher to the value of $100. The junior award is a certificate and $50 gift voucher and is awarded to young artists who produce a piece of work which shows outstanding creativity and technical skills.

The winners will be announced at 4pm on Friday 22 September 2017 at Studio 2 Eleven in Upper Burnie and will be displayed at the Burnie Regional Art Gallery from Monday 9 to Sunday 15 October 2017.
