Burnie City Council has welcomed the announcement of joint Commonwealth and State funding to the completion of the Burnie Waterfront project.

Mayor Alvwyn Boyd said “that the funding would enable Council to construct a promenade on the eastern end of the Waterfront along the Burnie Port rock bund.

“The Promenade will enable views back along the Waterfront to West Park, and will give a close view of the activity at the port.

“The Promenade assists Council in achieving the objectives of the Burnie Destination Action Plan, and the State Government's Tasmanian Visitor Engagement Strategy.

“It is good to be completing the final section of such a wonderful project.

“We know that both local residents, as well as visitors to our region, will be stunned by the view from the Promenade, particularly at sunset. It will be a great complement to the Penguin tours at the western end of the Waterfront.”
