Burnie Council excited by funding announcements

Burnie City Council has welcomed the announcement of the Federal Government’s Jobs and Growth package.

Mayor Steve Kons said, “Our entire region will benefit from the employment this funding will create. It’s great news for the entire North-West Coast.

Mayor Kons highlighted the challenges the region has faced in recent years.

“Many people in our community have been impacted by the transition in the forest industry. The Federal Government’s funding into the North-West is a welcome and much needed stimulus to help support and grow industries that will create wealth and provide jobs in our region.”

Mayor Kons particularly welcomed the investment into Caterpillar and the Dial-Blythe Irrigation Scheme.

“We know strong manufacturing and agriculture sectors are critical to our future. The funding announced yesterday shows a real commitment to these sectors,” he said.

Mayor Kons made note of the successful funding for the extension of the gas pipeline to Smithton.

“Our Council was pleased to support the bid by Circular Head Council for this project. We know that a project like this is great for the broader region, and in turn is good for Burnie.”

Mayor Kons also welcomed funding for Ta Ann and Haulmax.

“Many employees who work in these companies live in Burnie or these companies are serviced by businesses based in our city.”
