Biggest ship for the season to arrive Monday

Burnie’s cruise ship season is in full swing.

Yesterday (Wednesday, 4 February 2015) the Astor cruise ship made its maiden visit to Burnie.

This coming Monday, (9 February 2015) the Rhapsody of the Sea cruise ship, the largest for the season, will arrive and passengers will have the opportunity to spend the day in Burnie and explore the North-West region.

Mayor Anita Dow said, “We had an incredible day for the Astor passengers and crew. I hope the weather holds up for the Rhapsody of the Sea visitors.

“The ship holds up to 3,200 if at capacity and is the largest to visit Burnie for the 2014/15 season.”

The Rhapsody of the Sea is set to arrive at 8am from Sydney and leave at 6pm on to Melbourne.

“Each time a cruise ship visits we receive wonderful feedback regarding the warm welcome from our community, in particularly the incredible service by our volunteer guides,” Mayor Dow said.

The 2014/15 cruise ship season is set to bring an approximate economic boost of over $2.5 million to the region. After the Rhapsody of the Sea visit, four more cruise ships are scheduled to visit Burnie before the end of the season. Following the Rhapsody of the Sea, the next cruise ship to arrive in Burnie will be the Silver Spirit, on Tuesday 24 February.
