The biggest cruise ship for this season is set to arrive in Burnie this Sunday 11 December.

Mayor Steve Kons said, “It’s the Sea Princess’ maiden visit to Burnie. If at full capacity our region can expect up to 3122 passengers and crew.

“A large proportion of passengers at this point have not pre booked a tour with the cruise ship, so we potentially could have the largest amount of people enjoying our CBD and hopefully shopping, than ever before.”

The ship is on a 12 day cruise itinerary with Burnie its second stop. The passengers will have started in Sydney and will firstly stop in Melbourne then on to Burnie. After leaving Burnie the ship will also dock at Wineglass Bay, Hobart and then New Zealand.

“I am looking forward to greeting the passengers as they arrive from 8am. As it’s this ship’s first visit to Burnie I will be lucky enough to go aboard to present the captain with a plaque to mark their first visit to Burnie.

“We hope that businesses that find it viable to open on a Sunday can and I would also encourage the community to visit the City on Sunday to get some Christmas shopping done,” Mayor Kons said.
