Bernie invites the community to his grand opening celebrations

Burnie’s mascot, Bernie the Blue Tongue Lizard will officially open his new store at shop 21 in the Plaza Arcade Burnie, this Thursday 21 June with a big party to celebrate from 11am to 1pm.

Deputy Mayor Sandra French said, “Bernie has been a cultural icon to the Burnie community and acts as a symbol of the importance of supporting families since 2005.

“Council is very proud of the work Bernie and the team achieve with local families. We hope the families who are familiar with Bernie and new families will come along and celebrate the new shop and also find out more about what Bernie and the team can offer your family.”

Bernie the Blue Tongue Lizard is inviting everyone to the grand opening.

Bernie’s Manager Lynne Moran said, “There will be many free activities for families at the grand opening, including entertainment from Slip Stream Circus, face painting, balloon creatures, party food, community art work and lots of prizes.”

The new shop is extending its opening hours to 10am to 3pm Tuesday to Friday in order to better serve the families of Burnie.

“It’s great that we are able to extend the amount of time we can offer our support to families. Burnie are really utilising this free service, however we have plenty of room for more families to visit and learn more about the services available to your family.

“Many may not know that Bernie’s Pad is open for families to simply drop in. Your children can enjoy the range of free games and activities. Meanwhile Mums and Dads can chat with our team and find out about services that could help their family.

“Bernie holds regular free workshops and events as well. All families in the Burnie region should join Bernie’s facebook page or emailing list to find out what is on,” Lynne said.

Bernie the Blue Tongue Lizard is funded by the Commonwealth Government through Centacare’s Communities for Children project.
