Bell Shakespeare's Workshops and Scholarship Auditions

Bell Shakespeare Company is facilitating a Regional Access Workshop, as well as auditions for high school students for the John Bell Scholarship.

The Merchant of Venice Regional Access Workshop will be presented by a member of Bell Shakespeare’s The Players on Friday 30 June at the Burnie Arts & Function Centre, ahead of the August performance of The Merchant of Venice.

The workshop covers plot synopsis, character journeys and design images from the production. Schools that book tickets to The Merchant of Venice are entitled to a Regional Access Workshop at no charge to the school.

The John Bell Scholarship is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students living in regional or remote areas, who are interested in a career as a performer. Three students are selected each year from across Australia to go to Sydney and spend a week with Bell Shakespeare. They will participate in acting masterclasses, be taught by John Bell, observe one week of Bell Shakespeare rehearsals, see live theatre and perform their winning monologue for Artistic Director Peter Evans and a Bell Shakespeare cast.

Students from high schools in the region will be auditioning for their chance to win the John Bell Scholarship – with the winners announced in December.

Bell Shakespeare Company is regarded as one of the world’s foremost contemporary Shakespearean Theatre companies. Burnie Arts & Function Centre is proud to be presenting The Merchant of Venice in the Theatre on Tuesday 22 August, 7.30 pm.
