Baroque Pops with Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra

Baroque Pops will be performed by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra at the Burnie Arts & Function Centre Town Hall, on Friday 22 April at 7.30 pm.

Baroque Pops brings you Handel’s Water Music and other Baroque favourites including Pachelbel’s Canon and works by Vivaldi, Telemann and Gabrieli.

Handel’s Water Music has been a crowd pleaser ever since its first performance on the River Thames on the evening of 17 July 1717. Written to accompany King George I as he sailed upstream from Westminster to Chelsea, the music so delighted the king it was performed three times in succession (and a further three times on the return journey).

The conductor will be Graham Abbott, who has appeared with all six Symphony Australia network orchestras, various new music and early music ensembles, all the major Australian opera companies, and has been involved with educational projects including music camps and residencies across Australia.
