BSE farewell CEO

The Burnie Sports and Events Board today announced the resignation of their Chief Executive Officer.

BSE Chairman Mr Peter Mancell said, “It is with much regret that I announce the resignation of Stephen Hite, the inaugural CEO of BSE. Stephen has tendered his resignation, after quite some months of ill health.

“The Board of BSE is indebted to Stephen for four years of dedicated service in forming and establishing BSE. He has served the organisation well and contributed to a wide range of successful achievements. We wish Stephen all the best for the future as he concentrates on his significant health challenges.

“We are hoping to utilise as much of Stephen’s experience as we can in the coming months, but it is critically important for him, to be relieved of the substantial stresses and responsibilities of the CEO role,” he said.

The BSE Board has appointed Brett Whiteley as Acting Chief Executive Officer. The Board will discuss further the role of the CEO in the coming weeks.

Stephen has also been a long serving employee of the Burnie City Council, having been employed by BCC for 11 years prior to BSE’s formation.

Burnie City Council’s General Manager Paul Arnold said, “Stephen has been involved in a host of Council’s initiatives including the overseeing of the Burnie Arts & Function Centre, major sporting events, City Link, and cruise ship visitations. His efforts in attracting and servicing cruise ship visits are legendary.

“We wish Stephen every success as he leaves full time employment to focus on his health challenges.”
