Award winning circus act perfect for families

Gravity and Other Myths’ production of Freefall is coming to the Burnie Arts & Function Centre on Wednesday 8 May 2013 at 11am and 8pm.

Watch the guys and gals from Gravity and Other Myths fly through the air, slide along the floor, flip across the stage and shake it all out better than anything you will see.

Deputy Mayor Sandra French said, “Freefall is set to be a visual feast and something the whole family can come to. People can expect a spectacular circus, showcasing physical theatre and musical collaboration. This award winning, explosive and dynamic performance has awed audiences across Australia.”

Freefall is a unique physical exploration of inner fears, human quirks and truths. Gravity and Other Myths use their extensive skills in circus and physical theatre to reveal the inner workings of seven young characters as they engage head-on with their own fears.

Director of the Burnie Arts & Function Centre Geoff Dobson said, “The artists combine traditional circus disciplines including hula hoop, juggling, adagio, hoop diving and acrobatic pitching with contemporary movement and physical theatre to develop a dynamic and innovative performance style. It is a fusion of acrobatic physical theatre.

“Through spoken word and the unique physicality of each character, Freefall transcends the conventional concept of fear to show the deeper complexities and resulting every day habits that fear evokes in us all. This show is funny, skillful, smart, daring and utterly creative.”

Freefall won the Best Circus Act at the 2011 Melbourne Fringe Festival and Best Circus Act at 2010 Adelaide Fringe Festival. This electrifying and thoroughly entertaining performance will have the audience at the edge of their seat.
