Australia Day Ceremony 2016

The Burnie Australia Day Special Committee invites everyone to attend the Australia Day ceremony which is being held at the Burnie Arts & Function Centre on Tuesday 26 January, starting at 10:30am.

The program includes a Citizenship Ceremony as well as the presentation of Burnie’s Citizen of the Year, Youth Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year awards.

Burnie City Council Mayor Anita Dow said, “We call for nominations during the year for these awards. We have some very generous and special people in our community and these awards are an important opportunity to recognise their efforts.”

“We are also very fortunate to have Her Excellency, Professor the Honourable Kate Warner AM, Governor of Tasmania as a special guest speaker at our event. This is the second time the Governor has visited our city and we are delighted to welcome her back to Burnie.”

“Fourteen people will also become Australian citizens in a special citizenship ceremony. This part of the ceremony is always a highlight and a moment for everyone to reflect on what it is to be an Australian. It is a special moment to be a part of.”

Free morning tea will be held following the ceremony, all are welcome to attend.
