The 2018 Tasmanian of the Year and Creative Director of BIG hART Scott Rankin will be the guest speaker at the opening of ArtRage at the Burnie Regional Art Gallery on Friday 3 August from 6 pm.

Everyone is welcome and music on the evening will be provided by the Burnie Stringalong Program.

ArtRage is an inspiring snapshot into the creative minds of talented Tasmanian students at the height of their art-making abilities. This exhibition showcases more than 100 individual artworks by young artists who are studying Art Production or Art Studio Practice as part of their Tasmanian Certificate of Education. The exhibition will showcase artworks shortlisted by art teachers in 2017.

Participating student artists have used a range of art processes and media, working from analogue photography and traditional printmaking techniques to sculpture, video animation and 3-D printing technology.

Burnie City Council Mayor Alvwyn Boyd said, “We are happy to support the young artists coming through schools and to see the beautiful and challenging artworks they produce. ArtRage provides an opportunity for visitors to view the thought-provoking artworks by these talented and highly creative young people.”

“Several Burnie schools will be exhibiting in ArtRage which says a great deal about the quality or art teaching and enormous support of the art teachers of Tasmania.” He said.

ArtRage is an annual initiative of the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery in conjunction with the college art teachers of Tasmania. The works exhibited reflect the originality of individual students and the creativity that is encouraged by the twenty-two participating schools and colleges from across the State.

ArtRage will continue until Thursday 20 August. The Gallery  is open free to the public from 10am to 4.30pm weekdays and from 1.30pm to 4pm Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. Burnie Regional Art Gallery is assisted through Arts Tasmania by the Minister for the Arts.
