Applications close soon for community assistance

Round one of the Burnie City Council’s 2013/14 Financial Assistance Grants Program to Clubs and Organisations is open for application, but closes shortly.

The Financial Assistance Grants Program aims to support community clubs and organisations to initiate or establish programs, projects and activities on a fair and equitable basis.

Mayor Steve Kons said, “There are many groups in our community making a big difference on very limited funds. These community grants are a way for Council to help and show appreciation for their work.

“These extra funds can make a big difference to community groups and to our community. In the last round we granted the Burnie Scout Group $2,500 to assist with the redevelopment of an outdoor activity area at the Burnie Scout Hall. Also the Zodiacs Gymnastics Club was granted $3,000 to purchase storage racks and equipment.

“These are only two examples of how these funds have assisted our community. Last year’s program saw 24 community clubs and organisations receive financial assistance for numerous projects such as sporting equipment, arts activities and facility improvements.”

In addition to the grants program, individuals who are selected to represent Tasmania or Australia at events like conferences, seminars and sporting championships are eligible to apply for a $100 contribution toward their expenses. Applications for the State Representatives program can be made at any time by visiting Council's website.

Applications for the Financial Assistance Grants for Clubs and Organisations for round one 2013/14 close on Wednesday 18 April 2013, the application forms can be downloaded from Council’s website or by contacting Council’s Community and Economic Development Department on 6430 5706.
