Annual family walk and ride day on this Sunday

Dust off your bike or grab your walking shoes and celebrate the warmer weather by joining Burnie City Council’s annual Family Walk and Ride Day this Sunday, 18 November starting at 11am.

Deputy Mayor Sandra French said, “This annual event began two years ago to mark the completion of the fantastic coastal pathway. The event was such a hit we have continued it each year, to encourage and remind everyone that the pathway is there and free to use.

“It’s great to see more and more people using the pathway as a way to keep healthy. Every time you drive by, there is young and old using this pathway.”

This family friendly event encourages the community to either ride or walk the pathway, starting from either Cooee at the beginning of the pathway or the Burnie Yacht Club at 11am.

There will be marshals at each starting point to give participants raffle tickets to go in the draw to win some fantastic prizes.

“Participants will finish and meet at the waterfront for a family celebration. There will be a free jumping castle and face painting,” Ald French said.

This is a free event and participants who receive raffle tickets at the beginning of the paths will go in the draw to win an Apollo Summit bike, Mongoose stunt bike and BMX 20” bike from Leicester Cycles. There is also a half season family pass to the Burnie Aquatic Centre, a $250 voucher from SportsFirst and a full body massage voucher, two pairs of orthotic thongs and two exercise physiology assessments from Coastal Physiotherapy.
