BURNIE Shines was officially launched on Friday night. Themed ‘Everything Starts with a Dream’, the program is packed full with 100 events to be held throughout October. Celebrating the Burnie community’s interests and talents with a festival of arts, performances, shows, exhibitions, open gardens and sporting events. Burnie residents will receive the full Burnie Shines program in their letterboxes this week. No doubt everyone is looking forward to the arrival of warmer weather and Burnie Shines, the Australian Masters Games and After Party at West Park are all great opportunities to get out and enjoy the great things our City has to offer.

COUNCIL is very aware of the importance of appointing a Director of the Burnie Arts and Function Centre and Regional Gallery in a timely manner to continue the fine tradition of Arts and Culture in our City. A wide ranging recruitment process will begin in October and opportunities to work with Ten Days on the Island will be explored as part of this.

CONGRATULATIONS to all the winners in the Burnie Youth Council Art Challenge for 2017. Entries were once again outstanding this year. Winning entries will be on display at the Burnie Regional Art Gallery from Monday 9 to Sunday 15 October 2017.

ON Friday I attended the Official Opening of the School of Special Education NW Campus at the Acton Hub. What a wonderful new facility for children and families in our community to have access to.
