Mayor Alvwyn Boyd

Mayor Alvwyn Boyd

IT is with pleasure I write this message and thank all those who have voted in the recent by-election. It is a privilege to represent the community of Burnie as your Mayor. Congratulations to all the candidates and I take this opportunity to welcome Alderman Amina Keygan as Council’s newly elected Alderman.

THE University of Tasmania will be holding their annual Town and Gown Procession this afternoon. Congratulations to the graduates, for who this procession and the graduation ceremony marks the culmination of many years of hard work, commitment and determination. The procession leaves from the Council Chambers at 2.30pm and makes its way to the Burnie Arts & Function Centre.

COUNCIL is currently seeking public feedback on two proposals. Firstly a proposal to modify the View Road/West Park Grove intersection to create a T junction and a dedicated right turn lane from West Park Grove into View Road. The proposal is to close the south bound slip lane from View Road onto West Park Grove.  Secondly, a proposal to reduce the speed limit on a section of West Mooreville Road, from just north of Poimena Road to the Ridgley town boundary, from 100km/hr to 80km/hr.  For more information on the proposals, and how to provide feedback, please visit www.burnie.net or our Facebook page. Consultation and feedback on both proposals closes at 10am Monday, 18 December 2017.

THE Burnie Carols by Candlelight will be held in the Burnie Park on Sunday, 17 December 2017 with pre-carols entertainment from 7.00pm.  This is a great family friendly event.

ON behalf of Council, I would like to wish you all a very happy and safe Christmas and advise that Council offices will be closed from midday Friday, 22 December 2017, reopening on Tuesday, 2 January 2018 at 8.30am.
