WITH thanks to the dedicated members of the Shorewell Park Working Group, and with the assistance of grant funding, Shorewell Park now has its own outdoor community fitness equipment.

Council recently finished installing the equipment and it is ready for the whole community to enjoy. This installation complements other rejuvenation work that has been driven by the Shorewell Park Working Group including the resurrection of the basketball courts. There will be more happening in this area in the next few weeks, including the installation of a children’s play area.

ONLINE registrations for the B&E Burnie Ten will be open from Friday 14 July and to celebrate the launch of this event, the Burnie Bolt (a 3.3km fun run) will be held on Saturday 15 July along Burnie’s waterfront.

The timed fun run will start at the public activity area near the Surf Club at 9.30am for a 10am start. Entry is free and open to everyone. The B&E Burnie Ten Ambassador, three time winner Lara Tamsett will be there to start the race. We hope to see as many people as possible take part in this lead-up event to the big race. The 2017 B&E Burnie Ten will be held on Sunday 22 October 2017.

LAST week the Mayor attended the opening of the SPACE learning program in Burnie which aims to support young people to reengage in education and learning and to recognize their strengths, successes and potential. Congratulations to all involved in this important initiative. Council looks forward to working with the team and students from years 7 to 10 from the five different local high schools and is incredibly pleased that this valuable learning space is now available in our community.
