LAST week I attended the commissioning of TasRail’s $5.5 million underfloor Wheel Lathe in South Burnie. The Underfloor Wheel Lathe will enable TasRail’s locomotive wheel sets to be re-profiled in one day instead of six days. Congratulations to the TasRail team, contractors and State Government for its commitment to Tasmania’s rail infrastructure. We are very pleased this infrastructure was built in Burnie.

KERBSIDE Recycling Bin Assessments are on again in September. There was a 14% reduction in soft plastic contamination of our kerbside recycling. Thank you to our community for being a Good SORT by reducing, re-using and recycling. Do you know what can go into your kerbside recycling bin? The random checks look for contaminants such as soft plastics, foil food bags, foam meat trays, polystyrene, metal and electrical items. The results are used to plan future waste education activities because contaminated recycling can end up in landfill. Keep an eye on Council’s Facebook page for handy tips on recycling. Recyclables can also be deposited at the Burnie Waste Management Centre for free.

THANK you to The Professional Cross Country Club of Tasmania Inc for their invitation to attend their post Wynyard to Burnie race luncheon. The luncheon was held to celebrate the Club’s 50 years of competition. Congratulations to all involved.

THE Australian Masters Games Official Afterparty will be held at West Park Oval on Saturday, 28 October 2017, from 5pm to 11pm. This event, featuring the much loved Aussie band the Hoodoo Gurus, is an all ages event. Tickets are on sale at www.skyfields.com.au or from Fosters Music here in Burnie.
