Bass Highway/West Park Road Grove Intersection Upgrade update
The next stage of works are set to begin shortly at the Bass Highway/West Park Grove intersection.
Since commencing works in early October, Shaw Contracting has completed the relocation of the southern grandstand at West Park oval around the eastern side of the ground in time for the recent cricket match held at West Park.
Shaw’s are now progressing with works associated with the new access road into the West Park Precinct and access to the Makers’ Workshop.
Mayor Steve Kons said, “To ensure public and traffic safety and to enable the access road construction to proceed, the open space around the Makers’ Workshop building currently used for public parking will be cornered off.
“Motorists are advised the area north of the railway line will still be available for free parking.”
The northern footpath along the Bass Highway in front of West Park Oval will be closed to pedestrians from Thursday 24 November to allow Shaw’s to remove the existing fence and construct the left turn lane of the intersection and facilitate other ancillary works.
“The footpath is expected to be closed until mid January 2012. During this time pedestrians will be able to walk around the northern side of West Park as an alternative.”
Due to the works, motorists using the Bass Hwy and West Park Grove intersection will soon experience some changes to traffic conditions through to the end of February 2012.
“The project is progressing on schedule. We do ask that all road users and pedestrians comply with all signage and direction given by the Contractor during the works,” Mayor Kons said.
