Collections Officer

Newly created role based at our Burnie Regional Museum.

The Opportunity

The Burnie Regional Museum is a source of knowledge, ideas, stories and memories. It is developed and managed as a community resource and aims to inspire, educate and inform the community and visitors and to contribute to the conservation of the history and heritage of the North-West region of Tasmania for future generations.

Council currently has a vacancy for a talented Collections Officer to assist in ensuring that this mission is upheld. 

The Role

This is a brand new position and will play a key role in ensuring the registration, documentation, digitisation and preservation of Burnie Regional Museum collection in accordance with professional museum standards.

Reporting to and working closely alongside the Museum’s Curator, the successful candidate will have a varied role including managing large collections, volunteers, incoming and outgoing loans.

To be successful you will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing large collections
  • A commitment to showing interest in the Museum’s wider operations and willing to learn new skills under the direction of the Curator
  • A responsible attitude with a high standard of professional ethics
  • Possess strong time management skills and flexibility
