Burnie is an inclusive and healthy community. Whether participating or spectating, residents and visitors can access a number of excellent sporting and recreational facilities.

The Burnie Tennis club offers 16 hard court tennis court, and hosts the popular Burnie International in late January each year.  West Park Oval is a beautifully maintained ground, home to Aussie Rules and cricket, and also features a cycling track.  West Park Oval has hosted events such as the Women’s Big Bash League and the historic annual New Year’s Day Carnival.

The Burnie Aquatic Centre features both indoor and outdoor facilities allowing for all year use.  The McKenna Park Hockey Complex features an international standard synthetic pitch.  Fans of lawn bowls are spoilt for choice with several excellent club facilities across the municipality.

Being located on the shore, yachting is catered for with a clubroom and boat launching facilities at South Burnie.  Surf Life Saving is also a vibrant part of the community, with the club facilities located on the Waterfront.
